A George III mahogany longcase clock, circa 1785
The hood with inset brass stop-fluted columns and glazed side panels, with conforming pilasters flanking the trunk door, the 12 in. wide brass dial with foliate spandrels to silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring, matted centre with recessed silvered seconds disc, signed on a silvered plaque Jam.s Smith/London above a square date aperture, original blued steel hands, the arch with strike/silent ring, the eight day movement with five pillars, anchor escapement and rack strike on bell -- 90½ in. (230 cm.) high
