Three-tier box with recessed side handles, signed and numbered bone front plaque, brass bowl and gimbal, 12.5 cm. diameter silvered Roman dial, 8-day up/down ring numbered in red to the centre 898N and similarly inscribed GREENWICH to the centre of the subsidiary seconds ring, signed Thomas Mercer/MAKER TO THE ADMIRALTY/St Albans & Cheltenham, blued steel hands, chain fusee with Earnshaw type escapement, cut bimetallic balance with helical balance spring, two-tier assembly each joined by three pillars and with spot-finished plates -- 8¼ in.
