with brass handle to the inverted bell top, later gilt-metal putto spandrels to the door arch, pierced gilt-metal sound frets to the sides (detached), glazed rear door, on moulded base, the arched dial with silvered chapter ring, matted centre with silvered regulation ring and plaque signed John Bayley LONDON, mock pendulum aperture, gilt-metal female mask spandrels, subsidiary seconds ring with matted centre in the arch, bearded crescent moon mask spandrels, the five pillar movement with single fusee and later anchor escapement, pull quarter repeat on two bells, with elaborately engraved backplate depicting a naked woman dancing on a pillar amidst scrolling foliage -- 15½in.(39.5cm.) high
