the case modelled as a house with gabled and tiled roof, elaborately carved overall with oak leaves and acorns, with a bird perched above, a door to the arch opening to reveal a polychrome painted cuckoo, the dial applied with bone Roman chapters (part missing to XII), with foliate carved hands and turned centre, the typical wood frame movement with brass wheelwork and a bellows to either side, with strike on gong to back door, German, 19th century -- 18½in.(47cm.) high
