Lot Essay

Vera Port met Manabu Mabe during her appointment as the cultural liaison to the Brazilian Embassy in Washington, D.C.
During the late 1960's, Mabe visited Washington D.C. and New York to exhibit his work at local galleries including the Pan American Union Gallery and the Brazilian American Cultural Institute. During this period Mrs. Port assisted Mabe with his correspondence and logistics, and in general represented his interests during his time in the United States.
She was very moved by his abstract paintings, and purchased several of his works, including the present picture, which he painted while in Washington D.C.
