A photograph album of India, 2° (405 x 280mm), containing 115 gelatin prints mounted one or two to a page, including rural landscapes and views of the Taj Mahal, Agra, Delhi, Cawnpore, Lucknow, Benares, Bhurlpore, and Calcutta, also of Gibraltar and Suez in the early part, some portraits of Indians included towards end, photographer's credit occasionally inscribed in the negative as 'Bourne and Shepherd', 'Shepherd and Robertson', 'Stretton', 'Bourne', some manuscript captions. (Some fading and spotting.) Contemporary morocco gilt, front cover gilt lettered: 'Trip to India, 1874-75', gilt edges (rubbed).
An impressive tourist album, including photographs by Bourne, Stretton, and Shepherd and Robertson of the most celebrated sites in Northern India. The only clue to the identity of the compiler is a picture of Indian dancing with the caption 'Nautch at Delhi as seen by L. Griffin'.
