VIETNAM, ALBUM
A concertina fold-out album, containing 24 photographs by an unidentified photographer. [Vietnam: circa 1870-1880]. 24 mounted albumen print photographs (each 162 x 225mm. approx.), the majority titled in french and numbered, mounted recto and verso of 12 card leaves (each 174 x 263mm. approx.). (Some uneven fading to images, mounts somewhat soiled and slightly spotted). The leaves joined in a concertina within original black brown and gold lacquered boards, a landscape on one cover, a flower spray on the other (rubbed).
A FINE SELECTION OF VIEWS AND PORTRAITS OF VIETNAM: one side of the concertina with only portraits or scenes from everyday life, whilst the other has only topographical views. The portraits and scenes include 'Le repas'; 'Brodeurs'; 'Buffles'; 'famille chinoise'; 'femmes thos'; 'femme Muong'; 'femme Muong'; 'Tirailleurs Tonkinois'. The views include 'Sept pagodes'; 'Baie d'Allong (devant Kebao'; 'Baie d'Allong'; Palais du Kinh-Luoc. Hanoi'; 'Haiphong hotel du commerce'; 'Le Song. ki. Kong à Langson'; 'Yen-Bai'; 'poste du Trai-Hut'; 'Lao-Kai'. Together with a collection of 21 loose photographs [Vietnam: circa 1870-1880]. 21 albumen prints (122 x 166mm. and larger), 15 uncoloured and mounted on individual card mounts, 6 with contemporary colouring and mounted recto and verso of three card mounts. Two of the images are portraits, the remainder are topographical except for one image of an unidentified steamer flying the United States flag. (22)
