Extracto Historial del Expediente que prende en el Consejo Real, y Supremo de las Indias, a instancia de la Ciudad de Manila, y demàs de las Islas Philipinas, sobre la forma en que se ha de hacer y continuar el Comercio, y Contratacion de los Texidos de China en Nueva-España. Madrid: en la Imprenta de Juan de Ariztia, 1736. 2° (280 x 200mm). Title-page printed in red and black, engraved allegorical vignette. (Very slight spotting to fore-edges.) Modern red calf in eighteenth century style, spine gilt in compartments.

A FINE COPY OF THE FIRST EDITION of which only 200 copies were printed under instructions from the King, by the Alcalde Visitador del Comercio entre Castilla y las Indias. This most important book for use by the crown was to be an essential study of the commercial relations between the Philippines, New Spain and Spain and is divided into ten chronological periods from the discovery of the Philippines to the present. On f.3-15 is printed the author's "Justificación de la conservación y comercio de las islas Philipinas" and on f.215-264 is inserted the famous memorial of Grau y Montfalcon: "Sobre las pretencias de aquella ciudad [de Manila], y islas, y sus vezinos, y moradores, y comercio con la Nueva España," Madrid, 1637, an extract from which was reprinted Thevenot's Relations, 1696. Much of the material for this work came from the author's excellent library which included many titles on the Indies. The author writes that 100 copies were printed whereas Medina confirms 200 copies. Medina, Filipinas 430; Palau 9446; Robertson 124-5; Tavera 1044, 12461.
