Contemporary vellum with later endpapers (soiled), modern morocco box.

RARE FIRST EDITION IN FRENCH of one of the most successful Dutch voyages, establishing the power and reputation of the Dutch East India Company throughout the Pacific. The French edition is rarer and more complete than the Latin edition of 1619, continuing Le Maire's journal to July, 1617. Both Le Maire and Schouten had been taken on board by Spilbergen at Java after their successful transit of the Strait of Le Maire; Brunet V, 491; Borba de Moraes 826.
