Provenance: These three oils by George Chinnery were probably acquired by the great-great-great grandfather of the vendor, William G. Robertson (born 1802), who worked for Jardine and Matheson from the 1830s and is mentioned by Maurice Collis in his book 'Foreign Mud' - a history of the company. His great-grandson F. Longueville (of a Welsh Marches family) was recorded in the 1940s as owning two pictures of early Jardine and Matheson opium clippers (the 'Sylph' and 'Red Rover') by family repute also by Chinnery.
