Lot Essay

Apricot robes were traditionally worn by members of the Imperial family, such as concubines. They can bear Imperial Symbols, but this example does not do so. Given the tuck in the waistline, and the later fur lining, it is likely that this was an uncut robe which was made up by a retailer such as Liberty's. The tuck has been unpicked along one seam and as far as one can see, the kesi does not seem to have been damaged.
