modeled in 1:200 scale, built in plank on frame construction with the frames in pearwood, the hull planking in boxwwod, and the decking in holly. The carvings are in degama, ebony and boxwood and finished in gold leaf, the friezes and decorations are based on the painting of her by John Clevely the Elder. The model is displayed on the backs of a pair of carved dolphins and displayed in a mahogany framed glass case on a mahogany base

Lot Essay

Royal Caroline was a royal yacht built for the use of George II and his wife, Queen Caroline. she was designed by Joshua Allin and built at Depthford Dockyard in 1750. In 1761, the vessel was renamed Charlotte (later Royal Charlotte) for Georges III prospective bride and Queen, Princess Sophie Charlotte. The ship was broken up in 1820.
