A half hull model of the yacht Tern

the hull of the model is built up in mahogany, the topsides in a single lift and the bottom built up in five lifts. The hull is faired and sanded to match the designed shape. The rudder is attached to the backboard with brass brads. The toe rail along the sheer is carefully carved to give a finished edge to the deck. The model is mounted on a mahogany backboard with the name lettered on the right side.

On the back the model is inscribed with the following: TERN/Designed by and/built for John Hijabof (un-clear) 1901/Scale 1/2 inch/Model made by W.P. Stephens. W.P. Stephens was on of the great American yaching historians as well as a prolific half model carver. He carved numerous models for Seawanhaka Corinthian Yacht Club, and was a close friend of Nathaniel Herreshoff's
