QIANLONG (1736-95)
Well carved in medium to shallow relief on one side with a terraced building in the sea, beside a rocky outcrop inhabited by a deer and a phoenix perched on a paulownia tree, below a gilt inscription, the other side with a crane holding a stick in its beak and approaching a building floating on clouds above breaking waves and rocks, the stand probably zitan and carved in openwork with a dragon and its young amidst breaking waves below cloud scrolls, chips to stand
9¼ in. (23.5 cm.) high overall
