Miniature cabinets are often made of carved cinnabar lacquer, such as the pair sold in our Hong Kong Rooms, 28 April 2003, lot 598, and one sold in our Paris Rooms, 15 June 2004, lot 145, which are similarly decorated with dragons; and the one decorated with figures in landscape in the Palace Museum, Taipei, illustrated in Gu Gong Qi Qi Te Zhan Mu Lu, Taipei, 1981, no. 65. Compare also the pair of monumental zitan cabinets carved with dragons in the Palace Museum, Beijing, illustrated by Tian Jiaqing in Classic Chinese Furniture of the Qing Dynasty, 1996, no. 102, and the pair of cabinets without the upper chests sold at Sotheby's Hong Kong, 25 April 2004, lot 94.
