painted with a stylised 'Split Pagoda' design, the rim with roundels of Arabic inscription alternating with flower sprays, on wave pattern grounds -- 16½in. (42cm) diam.

Swatow wares, made at kilns in south China near the port of Shantou (called Swatow by the Dutch), was a coarse utilitarian ware, often decorated after the 'Kraak Porselein' pieces made at Jingdezhen.
