Edo Period (18th - 19th Century)
The top surface in red lacquer, decorated with zakuro [pomegranate] and hechima [dishcloth gourd] in red, green, orange, yellow, ochre and black urushi-e, rim with takaramono and scrolling clouds, the sides of the tall foot and the underside of the rim with recessed aoi-shaped panels of basketwork surrounded by gold lines, formal flowers and scrolling fronds on a nashiji ground, the underside in dark brown lacquer
