The present composition relates to Rubens' eponymous work of circa 1616-7 in the Sanssouci Palace, Potsdam (M. Jaffé, Rubens, 1989, p. 220, no. 386, illustrated). In the Potsdam picture a basket is depicted instead of a rose in the lower right foreground.
