Shown standing naked, with crook, on a Portland stone plinth, restorations
The figure -- 57 in. (144.5 cm.) high, 61 in. (155 cm.) high overall with bade; the plinth -- 28 x 25¼ in. (71 x 64 cm.)

Lot Essay

John Cheere (b.1709-d.1787), the younger brother of the sculptor Sir Henry Cheere (b.1703-d.1781), acquired the renowned lead workshop or 'yard' near Hyde Park Corner from the celebrated van Nost family in about 1737.
