Cippolino marble: a name given to laminated marbles having a talcous stratifaction. The varieties in general are known as Swiss and Greek Cippolino. Swiss Cippolino was quaried at Saillon, near Saxon, in the Canton of Valais. It has a pale green ground with straight thin veins running through the formation. Greek cippolino is an instance of ancient marble rediscovered. The quarries are situated on the Island of Cuboea, in the Grecian Archipelago. The colour tone is light green, with broad markings of a deeper shade.
