Scene from Chapter 5, "Young Murasaki" (Wakamurasaki) of the Tale of Genji

In the spring when the cherry trees are in bloom Prince Genji goes to the northern hills of Kyoto to visit a bishop at his villa. Together with Genji's retainers, they entertain themselves by playing music beside the rocks at the edge of a stream. The bishop brings out his seven-string Chinese zither. Genji is at the far left.
