A Blue-Laced Suit of Armor**
Edo period (18th century)
The suit laced in blue with scarlet highlights comprising a sixty-four plate suji bachi lacquered black and mounted with a four-stage tehen kanamono surmounted with a Buddhist staff, the small turnbacks decorated with gold-lacquer family crests, the bowl fitted with a five-lame solid-plate neck guard, the forecrest a long-horned demon; the face mask lacquered russet-brown and applied with a moustache and lacquered red on the lips, the teeth silvered-copper, fitted with a four-lame throat guard; the cuirass a two-plate okegawa do (constructed from horizontal plates) lacquered matte-silver with a rough texture with the top section polished silver lacquer, fitted with seven sections of five-lame tassets, the back of the cuirass mounted with a large sashimono (standard) bearing a family crest of crossed hawk feathers in blue against a white ground, the cuirass draped with a set of large wood Buddhist prayer beads; chu-sode of black lacquer; oda gote sleeves; raft thigh guards and splint shin guards
