A Black-Lacquer Suit of Armor**

The armor of false scales lacquered black and laced in blue with scarlet highlights, with a sixteen-plate iron hoshi bachi with a three-stage gilt-copper tehen kanamono and shinodare of gilt-copper and shakudo, the large turnbacks decorated with stenciled leather and scarlet lacing and mounted with shakudo medallions carved with family crests and trimmed with gilt-metal edging, the peak applied with stenciled leather and silk piping, the forecrest a simple gilt-copper disc carved with family crests of wisteria and mandarin orange and kuwagata, the shakudo kuwagata dai carved with chrysanthemum scroll, the helmet fitted with a three-lame manju-style solid-plate neck guard; the face mask lacquered black and fitted with a four-lame solid-plate throat guard; the cuirass constructed of solid plates of false scales and applied with stenciled leather on the muna ita and mounted with gilt-copper hardware carved with chrysanthemum scroll, the cuirass fitted with six sections of five-lame tassets and a kyubi no ita; large o-sode with stenciled leather on the top edge and hardware matching the cuirass; sleeves of chain mail with splints on the forearms; thigh guards of overlapping scales; splint shin guards; one wood storage box
