An Earthenware Sake Flask
Meiji period (19th century)
The double-gourd flask painted in colored enamels and gilt over a clear crackled glaze with lozenge-shaped panels of confronted phoenixes or flower garlands on the lower bulb and smaller floral or geometric roundels scattered on the upper bulb, all on a net pattern, the neck painted with a formal lappet band and chrysanthemum florets, enamelled silver leaf-stem stopper
