A Deep Earthenware Bowl
Meiji period (19th century), gilt seal Yabu Meizan
Designed in polychrome enamels and gilt over a clear, crackled glaze and painted on the exterior with a continous design of various Noh and Kyogen theater masks, the area around the foot decorated with a profusion of chrysanthemum heads and the rim painted with a tight floral-lozenge band, the foot ringed with simple scroll; the interior decorated around the rim with vines of wisteria
