Tradition has it that this flatware service once belonged to Gustaf Gründgens, one of Germany's most famous actors and directors of the 20th century. For a short time, Gründgens was married to Thomas Mann's daughter, Erika Mann. Among Gründgen's most well known films is Fritz Lang's 1931 movie The Murderers are Among Us.
