Lot Essay

The 'talbot' is an ancient breed introduced to England in 1066 by William the Conqueror. As early as the 15th Century English hunting hounds were famous as hunting dogs throughout Europe, Sforza, Duke of Milan writing in 1487 to King Henry "...The two noble dogs which we desired from your island have arrived safely, and nothing could please us better".
