Lot Essay

Thomas Butler specialised in the production of patent furniture, notably extending dining tables and bedsteads. He traded from 1802 at 13 and 14 Catherine Street in close proximity to his great rivals Morgan and Sanders who ultimately took over much of his business. A very similar table is illustrated in C.Gilbert, The Pictorial Dictionary of Marked London Furniture, Leeds, 1996.
