A LATE VICTORIAN BRASS MOUNTED WALNUT HALL SEAT
BY JAMES SHOOLBRED & CO, LAST QUARTER 19TH CENTURY
The moulded rail back with downcurved supports and a roundel to each side on channelled supports, stamped to the back 'JAS SHOOLBRED & CO' and with two diamond registration marks for 13th May 1883.

Lot Essay

James Shoolbred and Co. of Tottenham Court Road were one of the first large department stores in London. They expanded from a small drapers business and began to manufacture high quality furniture circa 1870, much of it influenced by the 'Aesthetic taste' popularised by the architect E.W Godwin. They were awarded a Royal warrant in the mid-1880's.
