Lot Essay

A recording of the original sculpture in 1665, in a book by Ruben's son, Albert, on Roman costume, stated it was in the collection of the Grand Duke of Tuscany in Florence. By 1688 it was recorded that it formed part of the collection in the Tribuna of the Uffizi where it remains until this day.
