Lot Essay

According to Adrienne Baxter Bell, the present painting is one of several works that Coleman completed of Capri, which was one of his favorite themes. The work was most likely a gift for Rosina Ferraro, the "Capri Girl" who modeled for the artist and was a personal friend.
