A clothes-press of this general pattern with dentilled cornice and 'hollow-cornered' doors inset with paterae, was supplied to Ninian Home for Paxton House, Berwickshire, in 1774 by Thomas Chippendale at a cost of £12.12s. The latter encloses six slides lined with marbled paper, as was specified in Chippendale's 1774 bill (C. Gilbert, 'Chippendale Senior and Junior at Paxton 1774-1791', Connoisseur, August 1972, p. 261, fig. 14).

S. & H. Jewell, dealers in antique and reproduction furniture have traded from the Holborn area since the mid-19th century. They are presently based in Parker Street, south of High Holborn.
