The table features reeded legs and relates to the antique fashion promoted around 1800 by the architect Sir John Soane. The same leg appears on a 'set of Imperial dining-tables on stout twined reeded legs and brass socket castors' supplied by Gillows of London and Lancaster in 1813 for Broughton Hall, Yorkshire at a cost of 50 gns. A similar dining-table was sold anonymously, Christie's, London, 13 November 1997, lot 133.
