Lot Essay

This pier glass is typical of Irish mirrors dating from the second quarter of the 18th century. The rather flat carving, double shell on the apron, awkward C-scrolls and jolting cresting are all characteristics and can be seen on a mirror sold anonymously, Christie's, London, 27 February 1992, lot 95.
