Lot Essay

Carnival Against The Nazis was the most celebrated event organised by Rock Against Racism, the movement created in reaction to rising xenophobia and racism in England. On 30th April 1978, a huge rally of 100,000 protestors marched six miles from Trafalgar Square through the East End of London, heart of National Front territory, to Victoria Park, Hackney, where bands including The Clash (as seen in the film Rude Boy), The Buzzcocks, X-Ray Spex and Steel Pulse were performing an open-air concert.
