Fraser Elder was employed by three Scottish newspapers, The People's Journal, The Evening Telegraph and The Courier, to produce caricatures and graphics; he also doubled as the pop columnist and was charged with the task of travelling to the Salutation Hotel in Perth where the Beatles were staying prior to their concert at Caird Hall in Dundee on Monday, 7th October, 1963. After interviewing the group, they signed 24 copies of the caricature which were then offered in a competition run by the newspaper.
