Lot Essay

George Harrison was a huge fan of Lancashire ukulele star George Formby and became a member of the George Formby Society in 1991, making a surprise appearance at their annual conference. Fellow ukulele devotees have stories of George Harrison playing Formby's 1951 hit Leaning On A Lampost.

The vendor, a founder member of the Ukuele Society Of Great Britain, became friendly with George Harrison through their shared love of the instrument and the music of George Formby. The vendor refurbished eight or nine of Harrison's ukuleles.
