Titles in red and black, four with engraved vignettes. 2 engraved frontispieces, 2 engraved folding plates, 1 engraved folding plan, 7 engraved folding maps. (The second folding map in vol.VII loosely inserted). Uniform speckled calf, spines in six compartments with raised bands, red morocco lettering-piece in the second, the third compartment stained black and tooled with volume numbers (extremities scuffed and chipped).
This wide-ranging work covers travels anywhere in the northern hemisphere. The areas covered include Iceland, Greenland, Japan, Korea, China, Tartary, the Caspian, and North America, including Hudson Bay, Virginia, California, Louisiana, and the Mississippi. The maps include three of North American interest: 1. 'Le Cours du Fleuve Missisipi, Selon les Relations les plus modernes' Amsterdam: chez J.F. Bernard, 1737. (380 x 445mm); 2. 'Carte de la Louisiane et du cours du Mississipi Dresée sur un grand nombre de Memoires entrau tres sur ceux de Mr. le Maire Par Guillaume De l'Isle' [N.p.: n.d.]. (372 x 408mm); 3.
