Griffith Taylor and Debenham were the geologists on the expedition, but geologising was encouraged on all sledging journeys, even by Scott and Wilson on the southern journey (Evans later would criticise Scott vehemently for continuing to collect and haul specimens on the return from the South Pole). For a review of the geologising on the expedition see Debenham's 'Summary of Geological Journeys' in Scott's Last Expedition, London, 1914, II, pp. 438-40 'From this summary it will be seen that the geological work of the Expedition was particularly comprehensive and was one of the chief items in the scientific syllabus of the Expedition. The mass of material brought back will be worked up and published in a special Geological Report.' (and see lot 378 for the Terra Nova Scientific Reports, including Geology)
