A famille rose 'mandarin pattern' armorial dish
Dated 1785
The deep dish of shaped oval form, the coat-of-arms en grisaille and centering a landscape scene with two amorous figures, children playing with dogs, a water buffalo, pheasants and ducks, the short ends enamelled with peacock feathers above a gilt border enriched with insects and pink roses, the base inscribed 'Canton September 22 = 1785, the Chinese inscription below with a corresponding cyclical date (the 24th day of the 8th moon month of the 50th year)
