painted with a sprig of cloves, nutmeg and a pineapple within a geometric pattern border -- 15 1/8in. (38.3cm) diam.

Lot Essay

The design is taken from Pierre Pomet, 'A Compleat History of Drugs', London, 1712, after an original drawing from the French version 'Histoire Generale des Drogues', Paris, 1694. Pomet was chief pharmacist to Louis XIV.
