Lot Essay

The presentation of themes taken from novels or theatrical dramas was much in vogue during the Kangxi era. A rouleau vase painted in a similar style with a wedding scene set in the period of the Warring States is illustrated by M. Tregear and S. Vainker in Art Treasures in China, New York, 1994, p. 196.
