MID 18th CENTURY IMPERIAL TOKAY
FROM THE ROYAL SAXON WINE
CELLAR
Lying at Christie's, South Kensington
Imperial Tokay, Mid Eighteenth Century
Four extremely rare sealed "mallet" - shaped bottles (approx 50cl) believed to date from the mid 18th Century. Three of the bottles, lots 556 to 558, bear the seal of the Royal Saxon wine cellar - a shield with crossed swords. Lot 559 with embossed wax capsule. The bottles have tapering necks, string rims and flat bases and are similar to a collection of bottles sold by the wine department in November 1968 and December 1998. All the bottles are 15 to 20 cms in height. Lot 558 with slightly protruding cork. Superb levels for age: top shoulder or better
