The four-armed deity standing on a square plinth resting on his staff, wearing a short sampot carved with parallel pleats and stylized sash, his face with a benign expression and moustache flanked by long pendulous lobes, the hair finely braided and arranged in a tiered topknot, the body finely polished

Lot Essay

The multi-tiered topknot is very finely executed and unusual in style, with a quatrefoil cross section and carved with a flowerhead on top, as is the treatment of the sampot with stylized sash flipped to the left.
