A Tibetan inscription in gold letters at the base of this painting identifies the central figure as Mahakala, though they are likely depictions of 'hidden treasure' or terma deities in the Nyingma tradition. The Nyigma lineage figures identified at the top of painting include Padmasambhava, Pal Khakhyab dorje, Orgyan chozang, Orgyan Tenzin rabgye.
