Lot Essay

Emmanuel Frémiet (b.1824-d.1910) exhibited at the Salon from 1843 and became a member of the Academy in 1892. A highly respected and successful sculptor during his own lifetime, Frémiet built a formidable reputation both as one of the foremost animaliers and as a monument sculptor executing numerous public commissions.
