Châteauneuf-du-Pape--Vintage 1998

Details
Brunel

André Brunel's Les Cailloux, always one of the great Châteauneufs, unfurls a purple, pleasing wine of slight Provencal twang. Despite being drinkable young, these wines have a great propensity to age. Old vines and non-filtration are the key here, with the classic cuvée having an average vine age of sixty, while the Centenaire vineyards were planted in 1889. During the elevage, about a quarter of the standard Les Cailloux sees new oak, while the percentage is closer to half for the Centenaire.
