CRAWFURD, John (1783-1868). Journal of an Embassy from the Govenor-General of India to the Courts of Siam and Cochin China. London: Colburn and Bentley, 1830. 2 volumes, 8°. Half title, 7 folding plates including one of Singapore after Capt. Robert Elliot by J. Clark, of Bangkok after "H.A.C." by J. Clark and two scenes in Cochin China drawn by 'a Chinese', folding map, folding plan of Singapore, folding glossary, 11 plates after Reid, wood-engraved illustrations, some full-page (neat tear along fold of map, some light browning, marginal repair to a few leaves in vol. I). Contemporary half sheep, leather lettering-pieces, bookseller's stamp on pastedown. Second edition. Crawfurd, at one time a medical doctor with the East India Company, was an envoy to Cochin China and Siam in 1821 and in 1823 he became Governor of Singapore. (2)
