Types and costumes of the Cape

White's Sketches of some of the various classes and tribes inhabiting the Colony of the Cape of Good Hope, and the interior of South Africa... was published in London in 1851 (anonymously with initials 'J.W.'), and contained 42 tinted plates of Malay and other types. White's imnages were used elsewhere, for example in Capt. Lucas's Pen and pencil reminiscences... (London, 1861) without acknowledgement.
