Lot Essay

Fisquet was one of the artists attached to Vaillant's circumnavigation of 1836-37 on the corvette La Bonite, visiting Brazil, Uruguay, Chile and Peru before crossing the Pacific to the China coast. Vaillant's Voyage autour du monde, published in Paris in 1845, included 30 plates after Fisquet's drawings alongside plates after the work of his fellow artist on La Bonite, Barthélémy Lauvergne.
